Sometimes things feel very familiar, almost as if they cut and pasted it from the old game.
GAME TO REPLACE STRONGHOLD 2 GAME STYLE PATCH
Most of which can be fixed with a quick patch (I hope). It looks and feels like the old game I loved so much.

So far im about 25% of the way thru the campaign and I'm really enjoying it. So needless to say, I didn't bother with the other games.Īfter watching a couple of reviews and gameplay videos I decided to pick up the new one because. I don't think I ever bothered to play it more than 30 minutes. I purchased the second game and for some reason it just never clicked with me.

My point is that I loved the game so much that I would play with anything that knew how to build a castle. I also met some crazy fucker from Fresno who told me he just got out of the looney bin for one reason or another and wanted to buy a couple of wet vacs to start a cleaning business. One time I got annoyed with him and I told him to "Shut the fuck up, lar!" and he surprised me with "Oh good, you're learning!". He would type nonstop and jibber jabber like a nutjob and I never knew what he was saying. He didn't speak a lick of English and would start and finish every sentence with "lar". I even remember playing with one kid who was in some country in Asia(I think). I spent countless hours setting up multiplayer games on forums with anyone who would bite. I even got into the community created maps and mods. What do you longtime fans and newcomers alike think of Crusader II? Is it an appropriately streamlined sequel, or is it a pared down HD remake? If they put just a little more effort into Crusader II, it might be a masterpiece. These half-hearted "sequels" and remakes cheapen their franchises, and that's a shame, because there's nothing quite like the Stronghold series.

Are the new troops and 3D engine worth full price? To some, yes, but not to those already burned by the messy Stronghold 3.
GAME TO REPLACE STRONGHOLD 2 GAME STYLE UPGRADE
It saddens me when HD remakes try to ride the inevitable nostalgia of fans while offering no substantial gameplay upgrade from their predecessors. While the graphics are absolutely better than ever before, there is a strange lack of speech and therefore humor. There are considerably fewer building options in terms of both industry and fortifications. The fear/love mechanic of Crusader or the disease, crime, honor, and monastery mechanics of Stronghold 2 are not in this new game, which offers nothing to replace them. Here's the thing, though: Crusader II has less polish than Crusader I and incorporates none of the unique mechanics of Stronghold 2 or 3. Basically, Crusader II was marketed a sequel to to the original SH: Crusader, but everybody knew that there were three titles in between that weren't well-received. Totalbiscuit did a great job alluding to this in his first impressions video, but he sounded a bit confused because he hadn't played a Stronghold game in a long time.
